Nick Burris received his second gold medal in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration in the New Mexico SkillsUSA Championships conducted on March 31, 2017 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Nick was representing University High School along with three other students during this year’s New Mexico SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Championships. Diego Saenz and David Lopez competed in Welding Technology and Alonso Perales represented the chapter in Carpentry. Diego, David, and Alonso finished in the top ten in their competitions and they are looking forward to competing again next year. Mr. Cody Carter states, “The school is very proud of their efforts this past week as they gave up part of their Spring Break to represent UHS and Roswell ISD.”

Nick Burris is a 2-time gold medalist in HVACR receiving gold in 2015 and 2017. He again will be representing University High School, Roswell ISD, Roswell, and the state of New Mexico at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference held in Louisville, Kentucky from June 19 – 23, 2017. Nick is a senior at University High School and will graduate this coming May. The HVACR contest includes a series of testing stations designed to assess skills identified by industry HVACR standards. Industry equipment used during the workstations portion of the contest may include but is not limited to ice machines, refrigerated display cases, small package HVAC units, furnaces and split-system air conditioning, and/or heat pump units and geothermal units.
