The RISD has received and verified information from the NM Public Education Department (NMPED) regarding an announcement from the NM Department of Health (DOH)  that will have a direct impact on our District.  Please read the announcement below, provided to you in its entirety.

We have requested further clarifying information which, once received, will be communicated to you.

IMPLICATIONS FOR THE ROSWELL ISD:

  • The last day of the Semester for the District is December 23.  Employees that work in person on that day may go home at 12:00.  Employees that choose to take leave on that day, must take leave for a FULL DAY.

  • Per NMPED, the earliest in-person services can be offered is January 18, including Special Education Services.  Because this is a District holiday, that date is January 19 for the Roswell ISD.  The direct implications for you as a District employee is that due to the PED mandate, the schedule for remote work/modified work is extended until January 19, 2021.

  • The Roswell ISD Board of Education had approved holiday work schedules for district employee remote work the week after each of these holidays.  The holiday work schedule is remote work with the exceptions of cafeteria, maintenance and custodial staff as indicated below (same as after the Thanksgiving holiday).

This schedule is now amended due to PED requirements as follows:

  • After Christmas holiday: January 4, 2021 through January 8, 2021.  REMOTE WORK & SERVICES NOW EXTENDED UNTIL JANUARY 19, 2021.

The only exceptions will be …

  • Cafeteria workers will prepare breakfast and lunch meals for a week and pass them out on January 4, 2021.  WILL NOW INCLUDE JANUARY 11, 2021
  • Maintenance and custodians will work on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday..  NOW EXTENDED UNTIL THE RETURN DATE OF JANUARY 19, 2021.

  • PED is requiring 10% surveillance testing of onsite District staff at least two weeks prior to offering in-person student services.  Staff who have tested positive for Covid-19 in the preceding three months will be exempt from participating in the surveillance testing.  If you would like to volunteer, please express your interest by contacting HR Director Ralph Matta, RISD Head Nurse Katherine (Katie) McClain, or me.

See the attached Powerpoint on the Surveillance Testing process (saliva sample), administered under virtual observation of a testing supervisor.  It includes instructions for registration,  specifics on how to handle the sample and the process for where and how to mail off the sample.  If selected for participation in the 10% random sampling, you will receive detailed instructions from Nurse Katie.  Please note that the test is time sensitive and requires your immediate action to ensure that PED deadlines are met.

We want to thank you in advance for your cooperation.  We also want to acknowledge and thank the RISD Board of Education, REA and CWA, for their ongoing support of the District as we follow the orders from the NM PED.
