Every year, the President proclaims January as a month dedicated to the awareness and prevention of human trafficking:
“Around the world, human trafficking has stripped nearly 25million people of their safety, dignity, and liberty — disproportionately affecting historically underserved and marginalized communities.During National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, we reaffirm our commitment to ending this inhumane and immoral practice in all its forms. And as we bring perpetrators to justice, we renew our pledge to help survivors recover and rebuild their lives.”
The Department of Education, Office of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Office of Safe and Supportive Schools is hosting a two-part webinar titled “Human Trafficking - The Roles of Families in Human Trafficking: Participation, Prevention, and Intervention” in recognition of National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, the National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments (NCSSLE) invites you to join a two-part miniseries focused on the roles of families in human trafficking, including participation, prevention, and intervention.
- Part 1: Supporting Students Who Have Experienced Familial Human Trafficking: Wednesday, January 11, 2023, 3:00 – 4:30 pm EDT
During the first webinar of the two-part miniseries, you will learn about the unique needs of students who have been trafficked by a family member. Our subject matter experts, including people with lived experience, will provide brief presentations on the impacts of familial trafficking and, through a panel discussion, share approaches to supporting these students. - Part 2: Engaging Families in Preventing and Addressing Human Trafficking, Wednesday, January 25, 2023, 3:00 – 4:30 pm EDT
During this second webinar in the two-part miniseries, our subject matter experts will offer a variety of approaches for school personnel to work with families to build protective factors in their children to lessen the risk of victimization and approaches to support students who have been trafficked. DHS Blue Campaign
For National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, the DHS Blue Campaign invites you to attend one of our webinars on recognizing and responding to potential cases of human trafficking. Members of the public are invited to attend this webinar where representatives from Blue Campaign will provide an overview of what human trafficking is, the indicators, how to report a suspected human trafficking situation, and available resources to raise awareness in your communities. DHS Blue Campaign: Human Trafficking Youth Forum
Caretakers and adults who work with youth are invited to joinDHS Blue Campaign for a virtual forum on human trafficking and youth. Hear from Blue Campaign, Department of Justice and Homeland Security, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, National Human Trafficking Hotline – Polaris and Love146 to learn how to talk to youth about online safety; gain knowledge of human trafficking trends and how they affect the youth population; and increase awareness of available resources for youth victims and individuals working with youth.
